English Translation

The Last Will of Ayatollah Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi

I wrote this will on 04/11/2017.

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah alone He has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (PBUH) is His servant and Messenger, and I bear witness that Ali (A.S.) and his infallible sons are the proofs of Allah and saints of Allah.

I bear witness that there is no God but Allah the Exalted, He alone has no partner. I bear witness that Muhammad (PBUH) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger and I testify that Imam Ali (A.S.) and his infallible children are proof from Allah and saints of Allah. I believe in all the Prophets and Messengers. I believe that Muhammad, (PBUH) is the last of the Prophets and Sayyid al-Mursaleen. I believe that the Commander of the Faithful, Hassan bin Ali, Hussain bin Ali, Ali bin Hussain, Muhammad bin Ali, Jafar bin Muhammad, Musa bin Jafar, Ali bin Musa, Muhammad bin Ali, and Ali bin Muhammad, Hassan bin Ali and Hujjat Ibn al-Hassan (May Allah peace be upon them) are my Imams and Shafi. I love them all and I express disgust with their enemies.

I bear witness that death is true, the questioning of good and evil in the grave is true, and destiny is true. The scale is true, the book of deeds given in hand is true, heaven and hell are true.

After that, O my children! I bequeath to you the same which Imams (peace be upon them) bequeathed to their children to adopt divine piety. Put your trust in God in all your affairs, without it, every action is in vain and without trust in God, every step leads to failure.

As it is mentioned in the hadith: Honor and wealth live in circulation wherever they observe tawakkal (trust in Allah), that is where they make their abode.

Likewise, my children! I command you to keep yourself above what is in the hands of people and not to extend your hands in front of any of the creatures and never attach your expectations with people, because it is mentioned in the hadith that if people know the ugliness of extending hands, then no one should ask anyone for anything.

The keys to all the treasures of the earth and the sky are in the hands of Allah, and He is the authority over all things therefore your expectations should be attached to almighty Allah only.

I command you all to perform your deeds only for the pleasure of Allah, because whatever is for Allah is blessed, and whoever is for Allah, Allah is with him.

I ask you to establish the prayer at its time, to understand the religion, to be merciful, to ponder on the Holy Qur’an.

I bequeath you to be careful, to enjoin the good and forbid the evil.

Likewise, I bequeath to you that treat both my sons, Muhammad Ishaq Najafi and Anwar Ali Najafi with respect due to the knowledge and religious positions they have because they are both older than you in age and knowledge. I advise you to refrain from disputing and arguing with each other because dispute destroys opinion.

I bequeath to ward off calamities through Dua, (supplication) to always hold on to daman e dua because prayer is the essence of worship and the key to salvation and success. Also, what man achieves through prayer, he cannot achieve through anything else. Dua is the best door to reach the treasures of Almighty Allah.

O my children! Know that you are the best children for me. I used to be proud of you in this world and you will be a source of benefit to me in the hereafter. In my opinion, no father has more honorable children than you. I bequeath you to do all good deeds and services because only efforts and actions can lead you to progress and success. It is my will to never wait for resources to act because we have observed that resources only come as a result of actions and efforts. وَ الَّذِیْنَ جَاهَدُوْا فِیْنَا لَنَهْدِیَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا (And those who strive for peace in Our way, we will certainly guide them to Our way). So guidance and opening of paths is only after effort and practice.

I bequeath to keep helping the poor and needy people, those who turn to you do everything possible to solve the problems of people, because that is the pleasing to Allah, and the best way to be close to Allah is to help the needy, it has best effects and consequences in this world and the next.

I bequeath that you do not forget me in your prayers and in various occasions, just as I never forgot my parents, even I have gifted the reward of all my good deeds to my parents.

Since human beings like survival by nature, I also liked survival and eternity, but not for this life, but I wanted to live in this world so that I could complete the exegesis of the Qur’an, therefore I wanted to live until the completion of this commentary, because the exegesis of the Qur’an is actually my life. So my life is also the commentary of the Qur’an. In the same way, this is my treasure at the time of my poverty and destitution.

Alhamdulillah, I have lived until the work of Tafsir is completed and now, and the ten-volume Tafsir of the Qur’an has been published in Muharram Al-Haram, 1436 AH.

I bequeath to the leaders of the religious Madaris to make divine piety their motive and make their actions sincere, as well as the training and education of the generations, in the commandment of Amar bil Moruf and Nahi an al-Munkar and do not show laziness and do not fear anyone but Allah. I bequeath to the students of religious studies to take the authority of the religious madrasas well in their own hands, and devote all their energies to raising the academic and educational standards in the country and to know that complete success comes from piety and godliness instead of making excuses.

O my (spiritual) sons! All my hopes are attached to you people and I pray to Allah the exalted for your success.
